Chris Golinski is a researcher and artist working at the nexus of music, technology, and economics.  He is currently pursuing his PhD in Music at the University of California, San Diego.

As a scholar, Chris is concerned with understanding how rapid transformations in digital technology affect the creative economy and the lives of artists. His research is notable for its interdisciplinary approach, combining in-depth ethnographic study with data analysis to answer questions that may elude a singular mode of inquiry. Chris is particularly interested in alternative economic and copyright models, which point the way to new solutions for compensating artists and ensuring democratic access to creative work.

As an artist, Chris is an active improvising drummer and percussionist. He has released eight albums of original work and has toured extensively, both in the US and abroad. Never one to adhere to disciplinary or geographical boundaries, Chris has often reached out to artists from other disciplines who live outside the US. The products of these collaborations include the sound-sculpture installation “Iron Forest,” created with Malaysian architect Ween Fung Kang, and the performance/installation “Cartography Event: Resonance/Decay,” featured at the Tokyo Experimental Festival with an ensemble of Japanese and Australian musicians.
